Insomnia
Insomnia is a term when we want to describe the circumstances when people have problems with sleep or staying asleep, or having non-refreshing feeling of sleep for more than one month. Depending on the different causes, it can be divided into two types: primary and secondary.
Primary type is categrized of those that is not caused by any known physical or mental condition. Reasons such as alcohol, coffee, anxiety and stress etc. should be considered to help make right diagnosis. Secondary insomnia is caused by a medical condition, commonly depression is one of the chances.
Another classification method is also applied according to time period. Less than a week of insomnia is called as transient insomnia, more than a week yet within three weeks is called short-term insomnia, that lasts more than three weeks is adressed as chronic insomnia.
Risk factors which can lead to the occurance of insomnia known already are age,female,unemployment,lack of education,medical and psychiatric conditions and divorce etc. for instance, female is more likely to get insomnia than male at the same age.
There are some clinical features which may help you make your own decision whether or not having transient &short term insomnia:
– jet lag.
– Change in shift work

– Uncomfortable room temperature
– Stressful situation in life(death, exam preparation)
– Withdrawl from drug, alcohol and sedative medication
– Uncontrolled physical symptoms etc.
A short-term insomnia or transient insomnia have the opportunity to recover itself by our body homestasis mechanisms or the removal from outside disturbances objectively.
Causes that contribute to chronic insomnia are psychological and physiological factors. Speaking of the psychological aspect, anxiety, depression and stress(mental, emotional, situational etc), schizophrenia should be considered when making a considerable diagnosis. Physiological causes may be due to circadian rhythm disorders, sleeping-wake imbalance or some medical conditions, such as congestive heart failure, angina from heart disease at night, brain tumors, stroke or trauma etc.
