【PhD Win opinion 】why the doctor should conceal patient’s severity of the disease
I had worked in the Shandong provincial hospital for 20 years, In China I know that the doctor should tell the real severity of disease to patient, when patients suffer from the bad problems such as the liver cancer, but in fact the doctor just tell the real situation of disease to their family. and in New Zealand the doctor will tell the real severity of disease to patients, I do not agree with the opinion that doctor tell the real severity of bad disease .
Firstly, patients are uncomfortable while they suffer from problems, for example headache, insomnia, body pain, weakness, dizziness, poor appetite, fevers etc., if the doctor tell them the severity of disease again they suffer from the bad problems, patients will also bear the huge psychological pressure.
Secondly, the huge psychological pressure when patients know the bad disease can make body weakness in immune system and make the mind anxiety and depression. The lower immune system make the original disease worse and worse.
Thirdly, the patients don’t want to any treatments when they know they suffer from the bad disease, such as liver cancer, so this will delay the best treatment time. my a patient who suffered from the lung cancer did not take medicine that his doctor taken prescription medicine for him.
Recently a patient who is suffering from the motor neuron disease comes to see me, she holds a visit visa, so don’t want to see the western medicine doctor to spend the huge money, so want to try acupuncture. I told her son that she is suffering from the MND, but her son doesn’t want to tell his mum the real serious disease. He is a Indian, but Indian is as same as Chinese’s opinion, the Indian doctor just tell the severity of disease to patient’s family.
Please tell me your opinion about my topic. Thanks
In fact Here’s a summary of your rights as a patient:
1.You must always be treated with respect.
2.You should never be discriminated against, or pressured into anything, or taken advantage of.
3.The services you receive should respect your dignity and independence.
4.You must be treated with reasonable care and skill and receive well coordinated services.
5.Service providers must listen to you and give you clear information that you can understand. If you don’t understand, you must feel comfortable about asking questions. This may require the services of an interpreter.
6.Your treatment must be fully explained to you, including the benefits, risks, alternatives, and costs, and your questions must be answered honestly.
7.You must be able to make your own decisions about your treatment, and be free to change your mind.
8.You can (almost) always have a support person with you if you wish.
9. These rights also apply if you are asked to take part in research or teaching.
10.You have the right to make a notification and have it taken seriously.
I am an acupuncturist, I must respect patient’ s right, and doing everything to my patients in clinic depending on the above the patient’s right, although I have a different opinion about the topic.
