Some unusual symptoms related to Cervical spondylosis
People will think about neck and shoulder stiffness, tenderness or upper limbs numbness etc when they talk about cervical spondylosis, that is to say there is a highly chance people may think of it once they have met those kind of symptoms, gradually they take these as the typical symptoms. Of course 8 times out of 10, we might encounter the situation clinically. But if there is a group of other symptoms that should be concerned as cervical spondylosis (CS) rather than wasting your time to do other lab tests.
Dry, distending and itchy eyes. Some of patient I met their chief complaint is based on the eyes. GP would have asked you to do eyes exams which normally turns out it is fine with eyes. This type of CS is due to tight neck muscles which irritates the nerve coming out from occipital area. Since this greater occipital nerve distributes along the side of head toward the eyes, that is why it will lead to eyes problem. Meanwhile, pathological change around neck will trigger the chain of sympathetic nerve of neck part that causes dry and distending feeling of eyes.
Chest pain and oppression. Patient might think of heart problem if they feel any discomfortable about chest, my personal experience is doing the lab test to remove the possibility of heart issue, if the result turns out all right. Next concern you should have in mind is cervical spondylosis because it will provoke some change of sympathetic never leading to chest oppression and pain, sometimes palpitation and sweating could appear as well depending on individuals.
Distending and cold sensation of para-body. Peple may first think of brain injury such as stroke when they find abnormal sensation. Tests on brain CT and nerve turn out normal but patient does have problem of cervical, in this condition, these are two solutions: if compression on nerve, surgery has to be chosen, if irratition of sympathetic nerve takes place due to cervical spondylosis, this is the type we can actually focus on to treat.with acupuncture and herbs.
Dry throat. This symptom can be misled to doctors, for some may think this is caused by tonsilitis. Here are two more simple symptoms which could relate with cervical pathelogical change : dysphagia(difficulty in swallowing) and numbess of two legs (one of the symptoms of spinal cord type of cervical spondylosis). if you have any more confusion, please feel free to contact us on : 098150518. or visit us at 1054 new north road, mt albert.
