PhD Win Huang’s clinical acupuncture treatment practice overview
PhD Win Huang’s clinical acupuncture treatment practice overview
Since my verbal statement risks compromise of demonstrating practical
acupuncture skills and the overview of my clinical treatment thought
process in detail, so I will illustrate in writing.
1, Integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine and acupuncture
treatment. Unity of western medicine diagnosis and TCM treatment are my
most prominent features. Every patient is better served with a clear
diagnosis using Western medicine as detailed as possible. With a clear
diagnosis, I can make decision on which is the best treatment method under
the medical field. If you can get proper medication through your family
doctor in case of primary epilepsy; You would need surgery from the
corresponding specialist if patient is diagnosed with balance disorders
caused by acoustic neuroma; It is recommended to visit a chiropractor if low
back and leg pain caused by sacroiliac joints misalignment; I would only
recommend clients to stay for acupuncture treatment if it can be dealt with
acupuncture, such as gluteal epithelial nerve entrapment caused by tight
Gluteus Medius muscle; if there is no treatment method known helpful to
certain diseases, I am surely explaining it to the patient and allow them to
pick where to go. Do not waste money on problems such as motor neuron
disease. This will ensure the efficiency and will not delay the patient's
disease, and my reputation will get better and better.
For pain syndrome that requires acupuncture treatment, I will use TCM
meridian dialectics. According to the meridian where the patient ‘problem is
located, first select the distal acupoint, usually the [yuan acupoints], and
then let the patient move the affected area after gaining Qi; then select local
acupoints, retain the needle, and perform needles; finally, if I have a special
treatment method, Just use specific treatment. Such as medial knee pain, if I
diagnose saphenous neuralgia. First, take Taixi, let the patient move the
knee joint for 20 minutes, then take Yinlingquan, Ququan, and Xuehai, leave
the needle for 20-30 minutes, perform needles during acupuncture, and
finally use the specific treatment method [Baichongwo acupoint], puncture
and bloodletting cupping, loosen Relieve nerves.
2, Pay attention to [Shen] treatment. When I treat most diseases, I will
cooperate with the mind-calming treatment. Regardless of the comfort,
explanation, and guidance during the treatment process, or the acupoint
selection during the treatment, I put healing the mind first. The first three
needles are what I usually use, [Shen Ting, Ben Shen], and I also take
Shenmen, Daling, Dazhong, etc. Healing [Shen] also include the Shen who
focus on healers.
3. Needles. My commonly used needles are filiform needles. I also use three-
edged needles to prick skin for blood-letting and treat joint swelling and
pain, headaches, high blood pressure, etc, I use epidermal needles to treat
lateral femoral cutaneous neuritis; and I use special needles to treat some
nerve entrapment, fasciitis, and intractable diseases [use a 0.35mm needle,
flatten the needle tip with a hammer, and make it into a blade shape for
neurolysis]; I usually use a moving cupping as a [Guasha].
4. Acupuncture techniques. Use basic techniques, such as lifting and
inserting, twisting and turning , etc., each acupoint must [gaining qi], and
after gaining qi, [make a qi to the location of the disease]; use reinforcing
and reducing techniques, such as lifting and inserting, twisting and turning,
opening and closing, fast and slowing, breathing, etc., if it is too strong, it
will be purged, if it is deficient, it will be supplemented, or the not purgative
and tonify After gaining qi, lift, insert and twist evenly. It is also commonly
used to treat difficult and miscellaneous diseases with [Feijingzouqi], such as
serious stagnation of qi and blood in the meridians in my clinical practice,
including the [Qinglongbaiwei], [Baihuyaotou], [cangguitaixue], and
[Chifengyingyuan].
5. In the treatment of visceral diseases with acupuncture, I focus on the
application of Back Shu points, [Mu points], [Yuan points ] and [the
intersection points of the eight meridians]. According to the meridian
dialectics, in addition to selecting the acupoints on this meridian, I also
cooperate with the application of some specific acupoints, such as treating
chest pain and chest tightness, applying Siguan acupoints [Taichong and
Waiguan] to open the chest, and then pricking and cupping at Xinshu and
Feishu; For stomach pain, in addition to acupuncture at Zhongwan and
Tianshu, I will also perform moving cupping on Ganshu, Pishu, and Weishu.
6. Acupuncture treats neurological diseases. I use scalp acupuncture to
treat various system diseases, but more neurological diseases, such as scalp
acupuncture to treat stroke, scalp acupuncture to treat ADHD in children,
scalp acupuncture to treat cerebral palsy, and scalp acupuncture to treat
Tourette syndrome. I have done some research on the treatment of bulbar
palsy with acupuncture, especially the treatment of pseudobulbar palsy
with Yifeng and Tianrong, which has remarkable effects; I have also
conducted systematic research on the treatment of spinal cord injury by
electroacupuncture on the Du meridian; acupuncture is the best treatment
for multiple cerebral infarction dementia. In my doctoral and master's
thesis, I selected several acupuncture points with good curative effects,
such as Benshen, Shenting, Shenmen, Dazhong, etc. In New Zealand for
more than 20 years, I observed, studied, and summarized the methods to
relieve many nerve entrapments. Acupuncture points and treatment
techniques, such as the turtle acupoint exploration method in
[Yanglingquan] to treat [common peroneal nerve entrapment], it have
raised my acupuncture to treat pain to a high level. In recent years, I have
been determined to promote this acupuncture method in New Zealand and
have been praised by many young Chinese medicine practitioners.
7. I also commonly use [one needle to two acupoints therapy].
Yanglingquan to Yinlingquan are used to treat popliteal pain; Qiuxu point to
Zhaohai are used to treat sinus tarsi syndrome; Fengchi to Fengchi are used
to treat greater occipital neuralgia; Kongzui to Xiaohai is used to treat
pronator teres syndrome; Jianzhen to Jiquan treats quadrilateral syndrome.
8. Pay attention to the overall treatment of traditional Chinese medicine
and emphasize the dialectical constitution of traditional Chinese medicine.
While treating the patient's disease, it is also necessary to understand the
patient's yin and yang, cold and heat, deficiency and excess, exterior and
interior according to the Eight pattern Dialectics, and give acupuncture
techniques or herbs. Those who are cold will warm them, those who are
hot will cool them; those who are excess will be purged, and those who are
deficient will be tonify. In addition, it improves the patient's overall physical
condition, that is, improves the patient's morbid constitution. In addition to
acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine treatment, patients should
also be advised to focus on diet, sleep, mentality, exercise, etc., and doctors
and patients should cooperate to cure the disease fundamentally.
9. Distinguish the non-specific therapeutic effects and specific therapeutic
effects of acupuncture. The non-specific therapeutic effect is the general
therapeutic effect of acupuncture, including the psychological hint and
placebo effect of acupuncture, the body's own self-healing ability, and the
effect of acupuncture treatments itself. Most of the acupuncture
treatments in acupuncture textbooks are non-specific treatments. Like a
common cold, the symptoms are relieved after acupuncture, but with
massage, the patient's symptoms are relieved after three days of rest or
with massage, finally the cold will be cured. The specific therapeutic effect
of acupuncture is that the patient's disease cannot be solved by other
treatment methods or the body's self-healing ability. However, the
symptoms are relieved or cured after acupuncture treatment, such as the
greater occipital nerve entrapment, the headaches that have persisted for
several years have not improved after various treatments. included the
general acupuncture treatment, I take Fengchi point, used special needles
and special techniques to perform neurolysis, and the headache
disappeared. This is the specific therapeutic effect of acupuncture. In recent
years, I have been studying and summarising many such specific treatment
methods, which have relieved patients' pain. As a traditional Chinese
medicine practitioner, the more specific treatment methods in the toolbox,
the higher the clinical level.
10. In 2023, amongst my new patients, two-thirds are [neurological system
related patients]. Thanks to them, I exercise my skills and return them back
on track while I contribute to TCM in New Zealand. There are 262 reviews
on Google map. In some cases, it is not an exaggeration to say that I gave
them a new life. This number of reviews is the highest in the acupuncture
community in New Zealand.
