Patient Story

She had a discectomy 8 years ago due to cauda equina syndrome.

Since then, she had been struggling with persistent symptoms — lower back pain, numbness, leg pain, and discomfort. Her bowel and bladder function were not normal, and both legs felt weak. Her knees and ankles were swollen and painful.

She also had poor sleep, constant fatigue, and no energy. Over time, she developed anxiety and depression.

She had been seeking treatment for many years, but nothing brought significant improvement.

After just 3 acupuncture sessions, there was a clear change.

Her energy improved, her mood lifted, and she started to feel more like herself again.

She said she felt “like a new person”, with more energy and a sense of lightness she hadn’t experienced in years.

She was very pleased with the result and strongly recommended the treatment to others.

Clinical Insight

This is a complex case involving previous cauda equina syndrome.

The nerve damage itself is real and still present, which can be confirmed through ongoing sensory and reflex changes.

However, not all symptoms are directly caused by the original nerve injury.

Over many years, secondary issues can develop — including chronic pain patterns, muscle dysfunction, fatigue, and psychological stress such as anxiety and depression.

In this case, acupuncture did not “reverse” the original nerve damage, but it significantly improved the secondary symptoms.

By regulating the nervous system, reducing pain sensitivity, and improving overall function, the patient experienced meaningful recovery in quality of life.
